Bush to undergo 'routine' colonoscopy

US President George W. Bush will undergo a "routine colonoscopy" at the Camp David retreat on Saturday, temporarily ceding his powers to Vice President Dick Cheney, the White House said Friday.

Cheney will serve as acting president until such time as Bush, who will be under anesthesia, says he is ready to resume his duties, presidential spokesman Tony Snow told reporters.

My best guess here folks is that right this minute, there's a democrat somewhere thinking up a way to play a practical joke on Cheney by slipping him an electric shock handshake in order to fry his pacemaker. You folks are aware that, during that brief window of opportunity, if the VP is incapacitated, the Speaker of the House becomes Commander in Chief, right???

I just shudder at the thought!!!!


Although I highly doubt anything like that would happen, I just cannot put those RCBMFs above such trickery.

I'm just sayin'...


P.S. The programming is going along well, but I have to work out a bunch of snags and worst case scenarios. Hopefully things will be back back to normal soon.

Ok, I know, I know...

I've been neglecting my responsibilities here and trust me, I'm not happy 'bout it either :(

I've just been so wrapped up in getting settled in at my new job that I almost completely forget about everything else in the world ...including especially politics!



Like I mentioned back a couple of weeks ago, I've been tweaking and re-coding a bunch of tools that I like to use to do my work. One of these tedious re-codes happens to be a migration from an older program I wrote in AutoCAD's LISP programing language back a decade ago into the more modern and 21st century standard of Visual Basic. The program keeps an automated and detailed time log of every drawing I open in AutoCAD and save back to the system. The problem arises from the fact that what used to be a simple export of document information into an ascii text file using relatively few lines of code, has now evolved into a full blown offensive of data collection and processing. In order to accomplish this task, I have to rewrite the open and close functions of the main AutoCAD program, utilize the Windows API (Applications Program Interface), reference ActiveX and DLL libraries, query database information, and then export properly formated data to an Excel spreadsheet. I've got most of the hard stuff already licked, but I still need to put it all together and get it to function without those nasty error messages puping up all over the place.

Needless to say, I will likely be busy with this crap for another week or so as I am doing all of this stuff at night after dinner. So hang in there folks, I haven't forgot about you.

Independence Through Dependence



When most of us reflect on this day, the image above quickly comes to mind and we think about how our founding fathers resolved to declare their independence from the tyrannical King of England. What many do not realize is that although adopted by the Second Continental Congress on July 4th and initially signed by John Hancock and Charles Thomson, the document wasn't signed by most of the delegates until August 2nd the following month and it wouldn't be for another 5 years later that the last signature would be penned by Thomas McKean of Delaware, in 1781. Not surprisingly, many are also unaware of just how these noble men arrived at the final text of this declaration.

Richard Henry Lee of Virginia addressed the Continental Congress a month earlier on June 7th. He advised that the time had come where the American Colonies needed to officially break from the British Crown. After 4 days of deliberation, on June 11, the Continental Congress assigned 5 of the delegates to construct the official document. John Adams of Massachusetts, Benjamin Franklin of Pennsylvania, Robert Livingston of New York (recalled before he could sign the document), Roger Sherman of Connecticut, and Thomas Jefferson of Virginia became famously know as the "Committee of Five" and spent the rest of June toiling over the actual wording of the declaration. They introduced the revised version of Richard Henry Lee's original resolution to the Second Continental Congress on July 2nd. It was pre-adopted by all of the colonies except New York which chose not to vote and after making some minor changes to the text over the next couple of days, the Declaration was finally and officially adopted on the afternoon of July 4th, 1776.

What many folks today are unaware of is the fact that not only were these men very highly educated, but they were also deeply religious. They knew that absolute independence on its own would surely lead to chaos and without a higher authority, their journey to freedom would only lead to yet another and worse form of enslavement.

Without our dependence on the wisdom and guidance of Almighty God, the concept of self governance could never be possible. The founding father's knew this and they made absolutely sure that this essential prerequisite was spelled clearly throughout and most notably in the last sentence of our great Declaration of Independence.


...And for the support of this Declaration, with a firm reliance on the protection of Divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other our Lives, our Fortunes and our sacred Honor.

When in the Course of human events it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature's God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation.

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. — That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, — That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness. OMG, have I been busy!



So far this new job has been a very time consuming change for me and continuing to nurse a very swollen leg has not made it any easier. I'm still up on my game with respect to the instrumentation and control stuff, but the software this new company uses is several years old and most of my productivity tools are not backwards compatible. So for the past two weeks, I've been reworking the code in my programs to handle the older ActiveX and Visual Basic modules. On top of that, I am swamped with all the reading I have to do in order to understand the operational aspects of the different hardware being used in their control systems.

Just so you know, I've also been working on a post for this Wednesday's 4th of July celebration. It's just too big a holiday in my book to be missed. With all that's going on out there, we sure need sanity check with regard to the freedoms we hold dear.
