Got an iPhone? Launch it into orbit!

Homemade Spacecraft from Luke Geissbuhler on Vimeo.

IMHO, that's about all they're good for.

I'm also thinking that if they added a little weight on the end of a tail underneath the iPhone, they would greatly reduce the amount of roll and sway they experienced. Holding the horizon steady would have improved quality of the video... just sayin'.

2010 Autumn Leavin'

***click the image for full size panoramic view***

This past Saturday, we took our annual ride to admire and capture the Autumn splendor of area where we live (for now, at least). It really is quite breathtaking. It's a shame that despite all this beauty, it is becoming damned near impossible to remain living here. The economy is bad enough nation wide, but even more so here in the Socialist Republic of New York State where, irregardless of the political change across the rest of the country, the intellectuals here, in their infinite wisdom, have decided to keep the state in a perpetual downward spiral.

Anyway, if you would like to see where this panoramic picture was taken, here's a link to the actual location on Google Maps. It's about 20 minutes north from my house along side Route 208 just south of New Paltz, NY. I snapped it on our way back from traveling almost all the way to Kingston on the same road. Perhaps next year we'll tour the Catskills or the Delaware Valley and hopefully the weather will be more cooperative so that conditions will permit us to capture the next images a bit earlier when the trees are more full with colorful leaves.

If you're interested in viewing my previous Autumn panoramic pictures you can go here for last year's and here for 2007's images.

These Christmas lights rock!

I am not a big fan of Guitar Hero, but after watching this clip, I must say, this guy did one awesome and clever job of decorating his home for Christmas. Enjoy...

I needed a good laugh...

The news of the day is begining to really depress me. There is so much evil going on in the world today and so much impending doom lurking over the horizon that I feel the need to dampen my frustrations with a little humor. That's why I like to break up the rantings here with content that makes me LMAO.

As I was enjoying some holiday cheer by watching old Christmas song videos, I came across something that made me laugh so hard to the point of tears and knew I needed to share it with you all. It's an old clip of The Johnny Carson Show from 1969 with Bob Hope, Dean Martin, George Gobel and others. Those were the good old days of entertainment. Guests smoked and drank right on the set and the comedy was damned good - almost innocent, but mischievous in nature. Today, comedy has devolved into bathroom humor replete with expletives and sexuality. It sure would be nice if we could return to simpler times.

Just a note: Be sure and watch the second clip. It's even funnier than the first.

He knows if you've been naughty or nice... or just damned ignorant.

Oh oh, Santa must be keeping up on his reading of newspaper editorials these days...

To the Editor: Save the Earth, get rid of trappings of Christmas
By The Post-Standard
December 02, 2009, 6:50AM

In today's Post-Standard, one reader says Christmas traditions do harm to our planet:

To the Editor:

I believe we should think about doing away with Christmas. Our planet is in big trouble, and giving up Christmas would help to save it in many ways.

Not having to do extra driving, looking for gifts, would save on gas and therefore on carbon dioxide emissions.

Millions of trees would not be cut down, allowing them to grow large and to eat up the carbon dioxide which contributes to global warming.

The land normally used for Christmas tree farms could be planted with fast-growing hardwood forests to suck up even more CO2.

No Christmas lights or decorations would mean fewer utilities would be used, therefore saving on our natural resources.

There wouldn’t be so much stuff to swell our already fast-expanding landfills.

I think people would be calmer, happier and less stressed if they didn’t have to deal with the holiday. Many who live alone or have no family ties get depressed around Christmastime. There are even increased numbers of suicides. Not celebrating Christmas would mean folks could save money and not go further into debt buying presents that the recipients didn’t even want or need.

Those wishing to celebrate Christ could have their religious and/or family get-togethers and remember Him for whom Christmas was named. It seems like we’ve gotten rather far away from that.

Today's Good Samaritan LMAO...

Horror Movie Scene Prompts Police Response
WCCO/CBS News
Dec 3, 2009 2:19 pm US/Central

COLOMA, Calif. (CBS) - Bloodcurdling screams and a violent attack caused a Coloma resident to call authorities, but when police arrived on the scene, they discovered the disturbance was just the filming of a horror movie, CBS station KOVR-TV reported.

The El Dorado County Sheriff's Office sent at least eight units to the Coloma Club off Highway 49 early Wednesday morning after receiving a 911 call reporting that a woman was being dragged through the parking lot.

"They were alarmed, certainly, when they showed up," said Josh Cumby.

The situation was defused quickly when authorities found out that it was just actress Ann Hensen and a movie crew filming a scene where she was being dragged away by the living dead...

With acting that real, you can bet I'll be looking for
that one when the DVD comes out ;)

Best "Dear John" Letter... Ever!

Here's another great email I found in my inbox:

A marine stationed in Afghanistan recently received a "Dear John" letter from his girlfriend back home...

The Marine, with his feelings hurt, asked his fellow Marines for any snapshots they could spare of their girlfriends, sisters, ex-girlfriends, aunts, female cousins, etc. In addition to the picture of his girlfriend Becky, Ricky included all the other pictures of the pretty gals he had collected from his buddies. There were 57 photos in the envelope along with the following note...

Marines... the few, the proud, and the witty!

Ooops, I almost forgot to post this...

This image was taken back in mid October. Two weeks and two frosts later, all the leaves all turned and were blown off the trees from heavy rain and wind. So much for Autumn colors :(

I've had it sitting an a "things to post" directory which I totally forgot about. Hanging up in the Shawangunks is one of the few things I truly enjoy about living around here.

As a side note, not to be outdone were the snaps I took of the valley back in 2007.

History 101

For those that don't know about history ... Here is a condensed version:

Humans originally existed as members of small bands of nomadic hunters/gatherers.. They lived on deer in the mountains during the summer and would go to the coast and live on fish and lobster in the winter.

The two most important events in all of history were the invention of beer and the invention of the wheel. The wheel was invented to get man to the beer. These were the foundations of modern civilization and together were the catalyst for the splitting of humanity into two distinct subgroups:

1. Liberals, and
2. Conservatives.

Once beer was discovered, it required grain and that was the beginning of agriculture. Neither the glass bottle nor aluminum can were invented yet, so while our early humans were sitting around waiting for them to be invented, they just stayed close to the brewery. That's how villages were formed.

Some men spent their days tracking and killing animals to B-B-Q at night while they were drinking beer. This was the beginning of what is known as the Conservative movement.

Other men who were weaker and less skilled at hunting learned to live off the conservatives by showing up for the nightly B-B-Q's and doing the sewing, fetching, and hair dressing. This was the beginning of the Liberal movement.

Some of these liberal men eventually evolved into women. Those became known as girlie-men. Some noteworthy liberal achievements include the domestication of cats, the invention of group therapy, group hugs, and the concept of Democrat voting to decide how to divide the meat and beer that conservatives provided.

Over the years conservatives came to be symbolized by the largest, most powerful land animal on earth, the elephant. Liberals are symbolized by the jackass.

Modern liberals like imported beer (with lime added), but most prefer white wine or imported bottled water. They eat raw fish but like their beef well done. Sushi, tofu, and French food are standard liberal fare. Another interesting evolutionary side note: most of their women have higher testosterone levels than their men. Most social workers, personal injury attorneys, politicians, bureaucrats, journalists, dreamers in Hollywood and group therapists are liberals. Liberals invented the designated hitter rule because it wasn't fair to make the pitcher also bat.

Conservatives drink domestic beer, mostly Bud or Miller. They eat red meat and still provide for their women.. Conservatives are big game hunters, rodeo cowboys, lumberjacks, construction workers, firemen, medical doctors, engineers, corporate executives, athletes, members of the military, airline pilots and generally anyone who works productively.. Conservatives who own companies hire other conservatives who want to work for a living.

Liberals produce little or nothing. They like to govern the producers and decide what to do with the production. Liberals believe Europeans are more enlightened than Americans. That is why most of the liberals remained in Europe when conservatives were coming to America . They crept in after the Wild West was tamed and created a business of trying to get more for nothing..

Here ends today's lesson in world history:

It should be noted that a Liberal may have a momentary urge to angrily respond to the above before forwarding it.

A Conservative will simply laugh and be so convinced of the absolute truth of this history that it will be forwarded immediately to other true believers and to more liberals just to tick them off.

And there you have it.

Let your next action reveal your true self .

Thanks Tom :)

When was the most fall down drunk you've ever been?

Whenever it was, I have a sneaking suspicion it couldn't have compared to this poor sumbitch...

...or could it?

Here's a tung-twister for ya...

Can you say "Bear Make Beer Run" 10 times fast?

Milwaukee Journal Sentinel Online

A 125-pound black bear wandered inside and headed straight for the beer cooler. The bear made his stop Thursday night at Marketplace Foods in Hayward, walking through the automatic doors and heading straight into the liquor department. The bear calmly climbed up 12 feet onto a shelf in the beer cooler where it sat for about an hour while employees helped evacuate customers and summoned wildlife officials...

Poor Yogi, he just wanted some suds to wash down all the food that those nice campers left him in those picnic baskets.
