Obama issues global warming rules in January, gives GE an exemption in February

Last month, the Obama EPA began enforcing new rules regulating the greenhouse gas emissions from any new or expanded power plants.

This week, the EPA issued its first exemption, Environment & Energy News reports:

The Obama administration will spare a stalled power plant project in California from the newest federal limits on greenhouse gases and conventional air pollution, U.S. EPA says in a new court filing that marks a policy shift in the face of industry groups and Republicans accusing the agency of holding up construction of large industrial facilities.

According to a declaration by air chief Gina McCarthy, officials reviewed EPA policies and decided it was appropriate to "grandfather" projects such as the Avenal Power Center, a proposed 600-megawatt power plant in the San Joaquin Valley, so they are exempted from rules such as new air quality standards for smog-forming nitrogen dioxide (NO2).

There's something interesting about the Avenal Power Center:

The proposed Avenal Energy project will be a combined-cycle generating plant consisting of two natural gas-fired General Electric 7FA Gas Turbines with Heat Recovery Steam Generators (HRSG) and one General Electric Steam Turbine.

Maybe GE CEO Jeff Immelt's closeness to President Obama, and his broad support for Obama's agenda, had nothing to do with this exemption. But we have no way of knowing that, and given the administration's record of regularly misleading Americans regarding lobbyists, frankly, I wouldn't trust the White House if they told me there was no connection.

Ok, so while GE may or may not be directly benefiting from Obama administration policy *cough*cough*, here is something else for you to consider: The National Broadcast Corporation (NBC), who has been Mr. Obama's biggest and most vocal lap-dog in broadcast media, is owned and operated by General Electric. It goes without saying that Washington has always been a town where politicians direct policy, favorable to certain groups and businesses in return for political favors, but this is full tilt conflict of interest! What ever happened to the Presidential candidate, back in 2008, that promised no more secret backroom deals with special interests? Hmmm???

Keith Olbermann was fired by MSNBC sources tell TMZ, and we're told it had everything to do with Comcast's acquisition of NBC.

Sources connected with the network tell us ... Comcast honchos did not like Keith's defiance and the way he played in the sandbox.

Our sources say Keith has around two years left on his contract, and he'll be paid his salary -- around $7 million a year.

We don't know if Comcast will let Keith make a deal with another network as part of an exit agreement, but it's a good bet he'll be benched for a minimum of 6 months, and probably longer.

Good riddance, but I have to wonder, with their chief asshat no longer present to make Liberals look even more ignorant and bat-shit insane than they already are, one would think that the station's ratings might finally start going up. I mean, since MSNBC gets the best ratings of all Liberal MSM news outlets, where, oh where will all the modern Marxist revolutionaries go now for their daily dose of leftist vitriol?

Every Christmas season brings a renewed conflict over the celebration of Christ's birth and Christianity in general. Every year we hear intensified caterwauling by PC liberals, atheists, agnostics, pagans and satanists seeking to eliminate any mention or symbol of Christmas from public view. Over the past decade, there also appears to have been a concentrated effort by Hollywood to trash the holiday season by releasing films that make a mockery of Christmas and denigrate the Christian faith. With the weekend release of "The Golden Compass," this year is no exception and the marketing techniques are in fact more insidious than any previous year.

For months we knew it was coming. It was being heralded as an exciting new film made in the tradition of "Lord of the Rings" and "Narnia" when in fact it was produce as an antithesis to those Christian based fictional masterpieces. "The Golden Compass" is based on Philip Pullman's children's book series called "His Dark Materials." Pullman is a militant atheist seeking to indoctrinate the masses by sneaking this film in under the radar during the Christmas season. The Catholic League found out about the movie's production and immediately sounded the alarm. In an effort to warn the unsuspecting public about the motives behind the movie, they released a booklet exposing Pullman and his works. Go HERE to read it in PDF format.

When word got out about the truth behind the movie, the producers of the film fought back by hiring a team of highly trained spinsters to promote the film and the editors made an effort to "sanitize" the film's content prior to release so as not to overtly offend religious viewers. The MSM also offered their assistance in hyping the film's release. They even went so far as to lobby for and received an endorsement from the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB). With the endorsement in hand, the spinsters then attempted to market the film with the USCCB seal of approval. Obviously, it wasn't enough. By the time the film opened last Friday, word reached enough people to ensure the film suffered a weak opening.

After the dust settled on Monday morning and the weekend totals came in, the MSM continued to push the hype, insisting that despite rumors to the contrary, the USCCB DID in fact endorse the film...

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - "The Golden Compass," a costly fantasy starring Nicole Kidman and Daniel Craig, got off to a slow start at the North American box office and will likely fall short of opening-weekend expectations.

New Line Cinema's $180 million film sold an estimated $8.8 million worth of tickets during its first day in theaters on Friday, according to data issued on Saturday by tracking firm Box Office Mojo (www.boxofficemojo.com).

After Saturday and Sunday sales are factored in, the film will come in at No. 1 with about $28 million when the studios issue their weekend estimates on Sunday, said Paul Dergarabedian at Media By Numbers, another tracking firm.

New Line, a struggling Time Warner Inc unit hoping to launch another franchise along the lines of its blockbuster "Lord of the Rings" series, said last week it was hoping the film would open to between $30 million and $40 million.

"It's below expectations, but it's not an out-and-out debacle," said Dergarabedian.

Conspiring against the movie, he said, were such factors as a soft marketplace and unrealistic expectations for an epic fantasy filling the holiday void left by the "Narnia" and "Lord of the Rings" smashes.

A New Line executive did not return a call seeking comment.

Based on the first book in British author Philip Pullman's acclaimed children's series "His Dark Materials," writer/director Chris Weitz's film is set in an alternate world ruled by an oppressive religious authority. It features talking animals and a heroine played by youngster Dakota Blue Richards.

Even though the film downplays the religious aspect, it has been savaged by the Catholic League, a New York group that promotes religious and civil rights. Opponents said the book on which the movie is based gave an unflattering portrayal of the church and specifically the Catholic faith.

But the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops described the movie as "an exciting adventure story with a traditional struggle between good and evil."

WASHINGTON, DC, December 3, 2007 (LifeSiteNews.com) - The Bishops of the United States are being asked to fire the chief movie reviewer for the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB). Harry Forbes, the Director of the USCCB Office for Film and Broadcasting, has reignited scandal by praising the film "The Golden Compass" which is based on an anti-Catholic novel.

Forbes caused similar controversy two years ago when he issued a glowing review in the name of the USCCB for the homosexual propaganda film "Brokeback Mountain".

Pete Vere, who has a written book on the author of The Golden Compass, spoke with LifeSiteNews.com about the USCCB review. "Several bishops have spoken to me about this review and they are horrified at what has been done in their name," Vere told LifeSiteNews.com. "Certainly the USCCB has to revisit its rules for issuing movie reviews." Vere's book co-authored by Sandra Miesel, Pied Piper of Atheism: Philip Pullman and Children's Fantasy, is to be released by Ignatius Press before Christmas.

Fr. Tom Euteneuer, the President of Human Life International, has called on the US Bishops to fire Forbes and his subordinate John Mulderig who co-authored the review of The Golden Compass. The HLI leader was incredulous that the USCCB review could recommend the film for children despite the fact that it admits the film has "occult elements" and carries a "sprit of rebellion".

"The fact that these gentlemen could recommend this movie to children is just abhorrent to me. I really do believe these guys should be fired," Fr. Eueneuer told LifeSiteNews.com. "Whatever happened to rejecting Satan and all his empty work and empty promises."

The USCCB review notes the great artistry of the film, but such is no reason to approve of it warned Fr. Euteneuer who has taken part in exorcisms. "St. Paul says in 2 Corinthians 11 that the devil comes dressed as an angel of light. And this is very clearly what is happening. They have taken an atheistic work and dressed it up as something good for kids."

Noting Forbes' former scandalous positive review of Brokeback Mountain, Fr. Euteneuer said, "The fact (the USCCB) didn't fire him at that time is what leads to this kind of thing. When you don't rebuke irresponsibility in using an office to spread errors then it leads to more irresponsibility."

...Alan Wurtzel, NBC's head of standards and practices, said the network decided not to run the Freedom's Watch ad because the group insisted that the spot contain the URL address of its Web site.

The group's home page links to another Freedom's Watch Web page that lists nonprofit organizations that are sending care packages to soldiers and that suggests other ways of expressing support.

It also contains a welcoming message that states: "For too long, conservatives have lacked a permanent political presence to do battle with the radical special interests groups and their left-wing allies in government."

"We have a policy that prohibits acceptance of advertising that deals with issues of public controversy," Wurtzel said. "This particular ad, in and of itself, is fine. It thanks the troops for their action overseas. We asked them to eliminate a URL address where a person is asked to contact elected officials and told not to cut and run on the war on terror."

NBC rejected a previous Freedom's Watch ad that addressed funding for the troops.

"It's a long-term policy, it goes back decades," Wurtzel said of NBC's stance of declining controversial issue advertising.

In an apparent reversal of "decades long tradition," it looks like NBC is prepared to cave in on the Freedoms Watch ad due to the overwhelming outrage by its patrons and viewers.

While this sounds like a wonderful move on the part of NBC, I have yet to hear confirmation on this and despite any small gesture they might offer to save what little viewership they have remaining, I am quite certain they will continue being a bunch of Neo Bastard Commies airing leftist propaganda as has been their "decades long tradition."

Since the emergence of communism in the early 1900s, millions of people have been imprisoned, tortured and murdered for their opposition to this godless, dictatorial, dehumanizing, and oppressive form of government. Today, only a handful of nations continue to enslave their populations under this brutal form of tyranny, but there continues to be a large number of people who are deceived into believing that the socialist or communist paradigm is the best solution for establishing a harmonious, fair, and functioning society. What they fail to realize is that by surrendering their freedom for the common good of the state, they also loose their identity, empower others to control their lives and become mere cogs in a large machine, disposable as a wrapper on a stick of chewing gum.

Little do many people realize, the early Christan movement was also, for a while, communist. That's right, I said communist! The Early Christian Church believed that equal distribution of wealth was essential for their obedience to God and their fellowship within the larger communal family. This social model is clearly described in the Holy Bible in Acts of the Apostles:

And all they that believed, were together, and had all things common. Their possessions and goods they sold, and divided them to all, according as every one had need. (Acts 2:44-45, Douay-Rheims Catholic Bible)

The major difference today is that communal social behavior under communism, strips away the authority and laws of Almighty God and replaces them with the authority and laws of man. We can to govern by all the knowledge in the world, but without the guidance of our Heavenly Father, we lack the conscience and discipline needed for true love and respect of self as well as others.

This past Tuesday, June 12, President Bush commemorated a new memorial in honor of the victims of communist rule. How long must we wait???

Since the creation of the State of Israel, Islamofacists have been waging an evil and insidious campaign aimed at its absolute destruction. Spawned from the alliance of Hitler's Nazi regime and Wahabist Islam during WWII, every country neighboring the tiny State of Israel has fought to bring about her destruction through both political and proxy war. Although today's middle east reveals many new dynamics and shifting demographics, the same hatreds and bigotries exist with ever increasing determination to eliminate the only true democratic American ally in the region prior to the liberation of Iraq. For more than half a century, the United Nations has discriminated against no other country more than Israel and with the war on terror in full swing, her enemies have strengthened their resolve toward achieving their diabolical goal.

In a bold strategic move meant to assist the war on terror, the United States helped broker a deal in conjunction with the Israeli government to create a separate Palestinian state. It is my sincere opinion that this was done with not one, but two objectives in mind. First would be to gain favor from some of the countries surrounding Israel and second, to prove once and for all that the desire of those longing for a Palestinian state was not one of autonomy, but one of terrorist military strategy. As we have seen through independent news sources - no thanks to the biased main stream media - Palestine has become nothing more than a hotbed of terrorist activity, a military base for al Qaeda, and a channel for other hostile terrorist sponsoring nations to import weapons needed for waging war against Israel. To many who cannot see the forest through the trees, this so called "Land for Peace" deal has been deemed a complete failure and a further compromise of Israel's security. If the creation of an independent Palestinian state was for the reasons which I had previously mentioned, how long will we have to wait before the IDF is given the go-ahead to pull the plug on this overflowing cesspool of evil.

Not far away, American and coalition forces are having to deal with an insurgency bent on the destabilization of a newly formed democratic Iraq. What appears on the surface to be a never ending war is chiefly due to the involvement of the same countries responsible for fueling the unrest in Palestine and fermenting hostilities to the north along the Lebanon and Syrian borders, none of which would have been so easily noticed were it not for the vast numbers of militia and armaments flowing in from the countries of Iran and Syria. As the war in Iraq continues, more and more instances of casualties will appear in the headlines due to the direct involvement of al Qaeda in conjunction with these two terrorist sponsoring nations and with the likelihood that Iran will soon have a nuclear device, things will only get much, much worse.

Until the fuel is removed, this fire will never be extinguished. As our brave American warriors in Iraq and the IDF in Israel continue having fight the war against terrorism with their hands tied behind their backs, Iran and Syria will continue to fight their proxy war with impunity. For the sake of victory over this evil, firm action is needed now and cannot be put off any longer. How long must we have to wait?

Isn’t it hilarious how the liberal vultures in the MSM are absolutely furious over the fact that news of Vice President Dick Cheney accidentally peppering his friend with birdshot during a quail hunt wasn’t revealed to them for an entire 18 hours?!?!?! The VP immediately placed his personal medical response team in charge of getting the injured party all necessary attention he needed, the local authorities were promptly informed, and a friend at the incident was allowed to make a press release to the local news paper.

I’m sorry, but I have to LMAO!!!

The VP knew damned well that by giving the scoop to the local rag, he would essentially poke the MSM elites right between the eyes! HA!!! If you missed the whining brats in the White House Press Corp reading the riot act to Scott McClellan over the 18 hour delay in releasing the news of the accident, you’ve gotta see it! Feeding Frenzy

Sorry folks, I’ve been absent for the past couple of weeks trying to get some of my sanity back and unfortunately I’m still not a lick better for it. Well, for what it’s worth, I did get some much needed sleep time. With every thing going on out there, I just had to take a pass on the punditry and watch from the sidelines. Needless to say, by not ranting about all the crap I’ve been hearing about in the news over the past week, I find myself getting increasingly frustrated.

More so than in the past ’04 elections, the democrats are ratcheting up their lies and their hypocrisy and the weak-kneed republicans are just letting them rue the day. Where the hell is their backbone! To this day, I cannot for the life of me, figure it out. The only thing that I can guess is that these wussies are so worried that the voters are going to perceive them as mean and vengeful partisans, unwilling to play nice with their democrat colleagues that they refuse to go on the offensive. Well you know what? Just sticking to the issues isn’t going to be enough anymore. They must counter attack or face being devoured by the rabid left. They have more than enough ammo. What they need to do is stop being so damned gun shy and pull the freakin’ trigger. There is a dedicated hard-core effort out there to destroy the political right in this country and these people are going to stop at nothing to get their power back. Someone needs to remind the GOP of what I’ve been trying to say all along… in the words of our old friend Ben Franklin; “Make yourselves sheep and the wolves will eat you.”

These brave people who are defending our freedom and spreading libery throughout the world have very few outlets to discuss their experiences with others who need to know that they’re fighting hard, kicking the bad guy’s ass and getting the unconditional support of a very grateful nation. I’m proud of each and every one of them for their sacrifice and their determination to bring this war to the enemy and return home victorious. God bless them all!

As with any war, one of the most crucial weapons needed for success is battlefield intelligence and the element of surprise. Unfortunately, any public correspondence conducted with relation to military operations and personnel must come under the strict scrutiny of the battlefield commanders. Doing so not only ensures the success of current and future operations but also ensures that the maximum amount of safety is afforded each and every member of the team. One of the hallmarks of our country’s armed forces is the amount of due diligence of all who serve in covering each other’s backside especially in the heat of battle.

For as long as I’ve been reading Millblogs, I have never encountered any incident where actual battle plans or ongoing operations appear to have been compromised through any of the blog postings. Needless to say, I am not a battlefield commander nor I am not in any position to distinguish that which is sensitive information or otherwise. However, even as a civilian, I do realize the importance of such scrutiny and therefore entrust my confidence in our military commanders and intelligence offices to make those important distinctions.

New York Newsday (a Long Island paper) had an article today discussing how the military is starting to clamp down on the content being discussed on Millblogs as it has the obvious potential of becoming an intelligence risk thus jeopardizing current and future combat missions as well as the safety of those involved. Of course they found one disgruntled serviceman willing to pitch a public hissy fit over the whole ordeal and as predictable as sun rising in the east, they chose to use this guy’s frustrations to make all the advances and victories in this war seem synonymous with the presumption that George Bush lied to get us into this war in the first place and that he’s continuing to ignore how badly this war supposedly is.

…Nowadays, milbloggers "get shut down almost as fast as they're set up," said New York Army National Guard Spc. Jason Christopher Hartley, 31, of upstate New Paltz, who believes something is lost as the grunt's-eye take on Tikrit or Kabul is silenced or sanitized.

Hartley last January was among the first active-duty combat troops demoted and fined for security violations on his blog, justanothersoldier.com.

Throughout last year, the Army, Marines, Air Force and Navy tightened control on bloggers by requiring them to register through the chain of command and by creating special security squads to monitor milblogs.

"The ones that stay up are completely patriotic and innocuous, and they're fine if you want to read the flag-waving and how everything's peachy keen in Iraq," said Hartley, who is back in New Paltz after two years stationed in Iraq…

Now, I don’t know Spc. Hartley and I have no intention of speaking badly of the man. As far as I’m concerned, he’s a hero for his sacrifice to this nation. Unfortunately, I think he’s just another showpiece being propped up by the MSM in support of their anti-war/peacenik agenda - the same MSM that gloats over the dissent of anyone tied in any way to the US military and exploits them to further their progressive (liberal) agenda.

BTW, does the town of New Paltz, NY ring any familiar bells? I live 20 minutes away from the place here in Montgomery, NY and I took some college courses there some several years back. It’s a big state college town. It’s also known throughout the Hudson Valley region as a Mecca of progressive (liberal) ideology. No disrespect intended toward Spc. Hartley, but some might even say it rivals Berkley, CA. Just think of it as the East Coast version of San Francisco, but don’t just take my word for it. Google the words “New Paltz Progressive” and see for yourself. From what I gather by reading Spc. Hartley’s blog, even he appears to know how out of touch with reality some of the folks living there really are.

Lastly, it must be said that I also hold no ideological opinion of Spc. Hartley one way or the other. He’s a soldier just like many others out there and it is not him that I have a problem with, it’s the scum-buzzards in the MSM circling him like fresh road kill on a hot summer night that I can’t put up with. And just like many others, he knows that there are a lot of shitty rules in the military that many agree are hard to live with, but for the sake of our success in this war and for the wellbeing of those he serves with, they are the glue that holds the ranks together.

A recent ABC News poll found that 70% of Iraqis say that life is GOOD! I can just imagine the conversations that transpired in the editorial room at ABC. Ah, to be a fly on that wall!

Uh-oh boss! Remember that poll you wanted us to run about just how bad the Iraqi people's lives were with Bush's occupying forces still terrorizing their country? Well, look what results we ended up with! It says that 70% of those idiots actually think life is GOOD! What a bunch of dopes! Sheesh! Don't worry boss, we'll fix it up before we run with it. There's just no way we're going to give Bush and those Iraqi dolts any sense of optimism prior to the election this Thursday! No way!
